INJUSTICE Game: iPhone App Review

The INJUSTICE game for iPhone is a fast paced classic fighting game. Similar to Mortal Combat, Street Figther, or any old-fashioned 2D arcade fighter. Remember Marvel vs Capcom in the arcade? Well this INJUSTICE app is very similar (btw you can buy Marvel vs Capcom for iOS for $4.99 here)

INJUSTICE is sweet because its free, easy to learn, and includes a ton of killer characters including Batman, Joker, Green Lantern, Superman and lesser known superheroes like Nightwing. The formal name for the INJUSTICE game is Injustice: Gods Among Us.

One of my personal favorite features of the game is the special moves. Each character has a pretty epic special move which happens frequently in each fight. The matches are 3 on 3 tag team style so you can quickly sub in a new hero if you are getting worked.

This game is from DC Comics and is a steal for free. It includes tons of unlockable secrets, lighting fast combos, and simple tap touch controls. You can download the INJUSTICE game here.

p90x iPhone App: The $100 Personal Trainer

Personal trainers are pretty darn expensive. Even if you go to a discount gym like 24 Hour Fitness the price per session is usually over $40.

Personally I really need a trainer or a class to really push myself to the limit. Well no fear my Stackers today I’m going to show you my $100 personal trainer. This is a one-time payment for unlimited training sessions. The trainer is the p90x iPhone app. You can download it here. It is the best fitness iphone app EVER!

The app is $2.99 and comes with a few workouts included (a great ab workout). If you want every single p90x workout (which I suggest you get) it costs around $100.

Here is why I love the app:

Each workout is super challenging and entertaining. You are constantly moving for 1 hour during every workout.
You can listen to Pandora and do the workout at the same time
The trainer (Tony Horton) pushes you through the entire workout via his motivational personal trainer speeches
You can take your personal trainer with you ANYWHERE (aka the app)
Several of the workouts require zero equipment so you can do them in your hotel room etc
The workouts combine both cardio and strength training which really maximizes the workout
Each workout includes both a warm up an a cold down so you can literally be done in 60 minutes flat

An in depth look at the app

This is the main interface of the app when you are working out. You can quickly skip any specific exercise and enter the number of reps and the weight you used.

Here are all the routines. Like I said above I highly recommend buying them all if you really want to get the full experience.

The app also has tons of features such as calendars, body measurements, before and after pictures etc. I mostly use it for the workout themselves but I can see a lot of value in the other features. Of course if you dig into the other features, it can only help you attain your fitness goals.

A great tool to track your progress!

Most of the team at StackSocial is pretty fit (we are HQ’d on muscle beach :) so I have some serious working out and dieting ahead. The app will absolutely help.

Gmail for Power Users

If you are a knowledge worker like myself, you live in Gmail. If you work in the technology space, this feeling of living inside Gmail is even more pronounced. I feel your pain!

I’m always amazed at people’s complete disregard for inbox organization and management. I just finished business school and most of my classmates had ZERO understanding of how to leverage Gmail’s built-in tools to save them a boatload of time.

Therefore, I have put together this little video of my 3 personal favorite Gmail features/labs/tricks:

Let’s briefly discuss what these bad boys do and how they can help you dominate.

Priority Inbox + 5 star system

Give your inbox some structure by making it a priority inbox. This feature allows you to divide your inbox into different sections. Each section serves a different purpose. I combine the priority inbox with a 5 star system. Each star basically acts like a label. I star all my important StackSocial threads with a blue star. I only remove the star when this thread no longer requires action on my part.

Apps Search

This lab simply allows you to combine your email and Google docs into one search. This will save you time because now you can find important Google docs right from your gmail search.

Canned Responses

We all have repetitive emails we do on a daily basis. Stop copy and pasting these templates into your email. Use canned responses to quickly drop in killer templates right into any email.

Get Healthy or Wealthy

If you have any desire to better yourself, please read on…

When I was writing my New Years resolutions for 2013, I knew there had to be a better way to achieve my goals than jotting them down and stuffing them in a drawer. I came up with a system I call Healthy or Wealthy.

At it’s core, healthy or wealthy is a set of self-mandated laws that will help you live a healthier, more productive life. If you break these laws, you must pay, with real money, to a real fund. As long as you stick to the system, you should accomplish your goals making you a better person, or stack up on savings if you continuously fail; hence, healthy or wealthy.

It’s pretty simple. Map out what you want to achieve in multiple aspects of your life such as health, mind, career, etc. Then, add tasks that will help you accomplish these goals and set a monetary value for each task. Each time you miss the task, you must pay the fine.

For example, let’s say you want to get in better shape. Break down your workout into tasks to achieve the body you desire. Maybe run 2 miles on Monday ($20), go to the gym on Wednesday ($20), play basketball on Saturday morning ($15). If you miss any of these activities, you must pay that designated fee to a savings account, an IRA, a jar, or whatever else your little heart desires. It’s that simple.

There is a lot of room for creativity with this. I personally like to put these penalties toward my IRA or relatively high-risk investments. If you really want to be a saint, donate your losses to a charity! These are technically excess funds, so feel free to put them toward a car or vacation. Yeah, you may be a fat, lazy slob, but at least you have a shiny new BMW!

Here is glimpse at the format:

Body

I would like to be in the best shape of my life within 6 months. In order to accomplish this I am going to:

Exercise:

Lift 3 days a week ($25 for each day missed each week)

Yoga once a week ($25 for each time missed each week)

Trail Run once a week ($25 for each time missed pending weather)

Surf Once a week ($25 for each time missed pending weather)

Consume:

No carbs after 6 PM ($10)

No mixed drinks unless it is a special occasion ($50, be honest with the special occasions!)

1 drunk day per week ($25 for each additional day per week)

Dessert once a week ($20)

Mind

Developing the skills of living in the moment, being compassionate to people and myself, and gaining knowledge is the quest as usual. I will achieve this by:

Read one chapter from Buddhist Mindfulness Book before getting out of bed 5 days a week ($10 each missed per week)

Read one book per month ($100 if missed)

One charitable act per month: volunteer, do a good deed ($50 if missed)

Work

I have an insane opportunity to really develop as a young professional that I need to maximize. Hard work will pay off in so many ways.

10 hours of work every day. If I run out of stuff to do at my job, work on a side business project or better myself for my career ($10 for each our short per week)

Don’t visit Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest ($5 each visit)

Read one profession related article once a week outside of work to improve myself as an employee ($25)

The possible categories are limitless. You can make it a point to be a better friend, better companion, start a new hobby, etc. and then create laws to achieve those goals as well.

Don’t get mad or annoyed with the system and be sure to keep with it and you WILL be a better person. Don’t get discouraged and give up if you keep getting penalized. Ideally you want hit most of your goals on a weekly/monthly basis and achieve a decent amount of savings in the process.

I suggest setting your goals extremely high so that penalties will be inevitable. You’ll also learn quickly that the more you obtain your goals, the less money you will be spending on other activities or materials that would only temporarily fool you into thinking you are happy.

The best part about healthy or wealthy is it’s a win win situation. Bottom lime, you will be the happier, healthier, more successful person you are constantly striving to be anyway. Might as well make it interesting.

Once you set the timer and press the start button, you MUST promise yourself you will do nothing besides focus completely on the task at hand. Do not respond to emails, check Facebook, etc. You can do these thing between tasks, but when the timer is going you must be 100% focused.

Focus is crucial. Surfing the web will not make you more money. Be mindful of your work and give it your sole attention. Not only will you increase your efficiency, but your proficiency as well.

Not only was this an excellent opportunity to show our customers and potential employees an inside look at StackSocial, but a long gander in the mirror of where we stand as a company. The time spent with The Muse to develop our profile was a zesty refresher of our direction and goals; a welcomed reflection as we roar into 2013.

There is no question our pirate ship took some nicks and bumps in 2012, but we learned loads and our growth exceeded expectations. StackTips | Signing Documents Digitally

Printing off documents, signing, and scanning them is soo 2005. Why people still do this is beyond us at StackSocial.

Not only is this a huge time waster but a paper waster as well. Save time and go green!

All it takes is the Preview app that comes pre-installed on most Macs. We know Preview seems like it is no frills, but it makes signing ANY PDF electronically a jif and it literally takes seconds. So feel free to throw that scanner out the window!

This is not just a digital signature where you type in your initials. Oh no. We are talking about your actual signature on the actual document.

It’s actually quite simple. Just sign a piece of paper and snap a picture of it with your webcam. Once that is saved within Preview, you are good to go!
