The real working hoverboard we brought you news of last week is pretty awesome. Only thing is, I can’t quite imagine it taking over as my ride of choice…y’know, when there’s groceries to get and stuff. But another dream machine has just arrived, which provides a similar degree of fun, with a sprinkling of practicality. Meet AeroMobil 3.0, a real, working, gorgeous flying car.
Believe it or not, the folks at AeroMobil have actually been working on this idea since 1989, but only in the past 10 months has the 12-person team come up with this beauty of a prototype, which is fully licensed in its native Slovakia. While the company is vague about the specs of the new version — the body, wings and doors are constructed from unspecified “advanced composite materials” — it is known that the 3.0 runs on standard gasoline (rather than aircraft kerosene), has room for a driver and a passenger, and is no bigger than a large sedan.
On the airborne side of things, the dashboard is filled with avionics equipment, and you get an autopilot, plus an “advanced parachute deployment system” for a little added security.
There’s no date set for a production model from AeroMobil, or an eventual price, but based on the $100k-upward price tags of previous multifunctional vehicles, I’d recommend starting to save the cents now.
Check out AeroMobil’s website for more pics and the full press release.
