Our 12 Favorite Games (and Franchises) Ever

We were chilling in the office today, playing some Xbox, and we started chatting about some of the best games of all time. So we decided to compile a list of the top 10 games of all time. Then we couldn’t decide what the top 10 were so we went with the top 12. And then, we couldn’t really narrow it down so we decided to include gaming franchises. So here is a list of some of the top games and franchises of all time (in no particular order… because we couldn’t decide).

1. Call of Duty

Anyone who has ever been a fan of first person shooter games has certainly played COD at least once. And most people that play it once will play it again. COD isn’t terribly complex, but it is an AWESOME franchise to hang out and play with all of your friends. And it has enough nuances to give advanced players the complexity of weapons and choices that they desire. This is without a doubt one of the top gaming franchises.

And on top of all that, we currently have it on sale here where you get COD 2, 3 and 4 all for $39.99!

2. Mario (The Franchise)

We almost felt like we were cheating by including Mario. This iconic game character was probably featured one of the first games you ever played, whether that was Super Mario, Mario Kart, or any other of the Mario series. So we are going to play a franchise tag on this one and say that Mario ranks in the top games of all times.

3. Goldeneye

No, the graphics weren’t great, but for the time this game was awesome. The 007 franchise really nailed it with Goldeneye, giving all teenagers an outlet to picture themselves as the suave secret agent sipping on a martini (shaken, not stirred) while they played this game. We know you loved it just as much as we did.

4. Halo

Do we even need to say anything here? One of the most played games of all time. Get out there and kill some Aliens.

5. Final Fantasy

This is an epic series that is a must have for any anime or RPG fans. With a wealth of different releases and mini series, this franchise certainly deserved a spot on our list (with a special nod to Final Fantasy IV).

6. Half Life 2

Another first person shooter game. Awesome in game physics, animation, and graphics. We just have one question, will Half Life 3 EVER be released?

7. Grand Theft Auto

So you like stealing cars, hiding from cops, and engaging in any other illicit activity that comes to mind? This game is your outlet. Type in a cheat code, steal a motorcycle, and see how far you can fly off of that ramp over there.

8. Skyrim

You love graphics? So do we. You love an explorable map? So do we. You love mods? We all love mods. I loved playing Skyrim… until I took an arrow to the knee.

9. The Legend of Zelda

Another one of the most iconic gaming characters, Link, is on a journey to get to Princess Zelda. You all know the game, and you all love the chickens. Zelda, has no doubt earned a spot on this list.

10. Portal

You have to like puzzle and the complementary colors blue and orange. You will get frustrated and you will spend way too much time trying to figure out how to jump through various walls… and you will love every minute of it.

11. & 12. Madden & Fifa

No matter what type of football you like, these two franchises have you covered. From the world’s most popular sport to the world’s most American sport, Madden and Fifa have the most up to date teams and most well remembered control configurations of any franchises. Both are perfect games for when you are hanging with the bros (or chicks. We don’t judge here at StackSocial). Madden 2011 happened to feature the best quarterback in the league (unbiased opinion here), so it got the picture spot.

No matter what your favorite game is, we all love to play something. So take our top list and give it a shot if there is a game here you haven’t had a chance to play yet.
